The viewpoint has been named one of Norway’s most important buildings and has received several awards for good design and material use. Sohlbergplassen is designed by architect Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk and was officially opened in 2008.

The Norwegian painter Harald Sohlberg (1869-1935) stayed in the Rondane mountain area for several years to do studies for his most famous work Winter Night in the Mountains. The platform frames the view towards the lake and the rounded peaks of the Rondane massif almost exactly as they appear in Harald Sohlberg’s famous painting “Winter’s Night in Rondane”.Wheelchair accessible.
